Evaluating Lightning-Caused Wildfire Risk to Alaska’s Power Grid Infrastructure
Our research introduces a data-driven framework for identifying where Alaska’s electric power infrastructure is most vulnerable to lightning-caused wildfires. By combining climate, topographic, lightning, wildfire, and power grid data with machine learning and GIS analysis, the study generates interpretable wildfire risk maps that help electric utilities prioritize mitigation efforts, improve resource allocation, and strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure against a growing wildfire threat.
