The multi-story buildings are constructed on a sloped site utilizing wood framing and wooden foundations.&nbsp; The foundations consist of a wooden bearing wall, built-up pressure-treated columns on concrete footings, and wooden lateral bracing.&nbsp; The 7.0 Magnitude earthquake that occurred in Anchorage on 30 November 2019 caused structural damage in several of the units.&nbsp; Lateral cross bracing was overstressed during the earthquake and deflections of up to several inches can be observed in some braces.&nbsp; The brace connections appear to have failed and some columns are out of plumb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of this project is to investigate the earthquake damage, assess the building\u2019s existing lateral force resisting system, and design cost-effective repairs and retrofit.&nbsp; Modifications to the foundation shall adequately resist the lateral loads and ensure continued use and longevity of the building.&nbsp; Potential systems include new wood shear walls, a concrete shear wall, or steel bracing.&nbsp;
