The purpose of this project is to conduct a time-history structural analysis of the structural elements of the UAA Engineering and Industry Building using the strong-motion record from 30 November 2019. This analysis includes comparing the performance with the code-based design, identifying locations of yielding and predicting performance and areas of concern for a larger event. Using the lessons learned in the from the EIB analysis, a preliminary design for the EIB Phase 2 structure will be completed. This is a proposed 2 story structure adjacent to the current EIB structure that incorporates a bridge to the UAA Bookstore.

View Project

View Presentation

View Report

Student Members: Charles Pappas, Justin Lobdell, Evan Sharp Faculty Advisors: Dr. Scott Hamel Project Mentor: Courtney Willoughby, PE, SE Description: The Engineering and Industry Building (EIB) at UAA is a 4 story moment frame structure that was completed in 2016. The building is instrumented with 18 strong-motion sensors (accelerometers) that measure the building’s movement during […]

[24
192
297
313,316
post-2624","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-capstone-project","tag-civil-engineering","discipline-civil-engineering","academic_year-313","academic_year-academic_year
["GET
