Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (AIR) Lab

The Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (AIR) Lab, housed within the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage’s College of Engineering, is committed to pushing the boundaries of research, education, and practical applications in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, and data science. Guided by experts in computational intelligence and engineering, the lab is uniquely positioned to address the distinct challenges of Alaska, including remote accessibility, harsh environmental conditions, and specialized local health and safety needs, through the creation of innovative AI solutions designed specifically for these unique circumstances.

We are committed to creating technologies that directly benefit local communities, and this is only possible by understanding their needs firsthand. Through deep, mutually beneficial partnerships with local communities and industries, we promote open conversations. By working together, we hope communities can take the lead on the projects that matter most to them.

Help us understand how we can best support the projects that matter most to your community!

For AI to be truly responsive to individual’s concerns, emotions, and culture, developers need to come from diverse backgrounds and understand different perspectives. We aim to empower local talent and ensure that AI development reflects the needs and values of all Alaskans.

Help us educate the next generation of AI developers from Alaska by sharing your domain expertise and supporting hands-on learning opportunities!

We believe every Alaskan should be ready for an AI-driven future. Trusting AI can be difficult without familiarity, so we are committed to making it accessible for everyone. Our educational modules accommodate different levels of familiarity, ensuring each person learns in a way that fits their needs.
